Lakeshore Paramedical Hearing Services

About Us

Lakeshore Paramedical Hearing Services is a 3rd generation family-owned business founded by June and Martin Clarke in 1979. The original office was located at 3556 Lakeshore Rd W. and was built as an addition to the family home.

The clinic is now run by Jennifer Nolan, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarke and their grandson Clarke Nolan.

We are a completely independent office, and offer a wide variety of hearing services, including complimentary hearing testing, fitting and adjustments of new hearing aids, and hearing aid repairs. We are familiar with devices from all major manufacturers, old and new, and have the supporting software in order to program your existing hearing aids. We can adjust all hearing devices and have parts on the premises for fast and easy service.

In the summer of 2021, we moved our office to a new location at 2317 Lakeshore Road W. in order to improve our ability to service our patients, and to provide better access and free ample parking.

What Our Clients Say

FAQ

There are a number of signs that might indicate you have a hearing loss. Some of the most common indicators include:
  1. You have difficulty hearing people clearly, and misunderstand what they say. Children’s voices and soft speakers are especially difficult to hear.
  2. You are watching people’s lips move instead of making eye contact. Now more than ever, this is difficult due to the wearing of masks.
  3. You feel tired after social events as a result of devoting much of your mental energy to listening and focusing on peoples’ speech, rather than enjoying the event around you.
  4. Background noise makes it almost impossible to hear speech clearly.
  5. The volume of your television or radio is much louder than your friends or family would need.
  6. Your ears feel as if they are blocked or clogged.
  7. You have difficulty hearing on the telephone.
A hearing test does not need a referral from your family Doctor. In fact, a hearing test is recommended for all adults 65 and older. Most seniors will have an aidable hearing loss after the age of 65.
Yes, our Hearing Specialists are trained and authorized to perform a comprehensive hearing test in order to provide you with the necessary information required to assess if amplification is necessary. Our clinic does an in-depth hearing assessment, and we require a 90-minute appointment for this service.
Hearing tests are complimentary at our clinic, as well as the consultation following the test. We do not bill O.H.I.P. or charge the patients for this service.

Yes, the provincial government provides anyone with a valid health card a provincial grant towards the purchase of any government approved hearing aids. They will also provide funding for patients who qualify for federal benefits such as O.D.S.P., NIHB and various income supported programs.

The federal government also provides those established with a valid Veteran’s Affairs or Workers Safety Insurance Board number with complimentary devices upon approval.

Hearing aid’s, like most health care products have a cost equal to the level of sophistication of the device. Most manufacturers have a tiered breakdown of technology for their products. Within the latest product offerings, devices can typically range from about $2,500 to $8,500 a pair depending on the technology level.

However, because we have been in business for over 40 years, we have earned amazing discounts from our suppliers, which we in turn pass directly to our patients. This can substantially decrease the financial barrier to treatment. In some cases, we receive as much as a 50% discount on hearing aids. The technology level that best suits your needs is something your Specialist will discuss with you after the test. The biggest determining factors are how severe your hearing loss is, your lifestyle habits, and budget.

Since hearing aids are a medical device, there is no tax on any of the products or accessories.

There is an industry standard 3-year manufacturer warranty on all hearing aids, which provides unlimited support for the full three years from the fit date. If you have a problem with your device, the manufacturer will repair it or replace it at no cost to you, usually in less than 2 weeks. Should you lose your hearing aid(s) the manufacturer will provide you with a one-time replacement for a small deductible if it’s claimed within the first two years of purchase.

Once you have purchased a hearing aid from Lakeshore Paramedical Hearing Services, you can be confident to know what we will also provide you with unlimited complimentary in office visits.

Most hearing aids offered by the manufacturers these days are rechargeable. That means purchasing and changing batteries are quickly becoming unnecessary. Should you have an older model hearing aid, we still sell all types of batteries and a number of accessories compatible with your device.

This a question we receive all the time in our clinic. While everyone has their own threshold for when hearing loss has enough of an impact on their quality of life to move forward with hearing aids, multiple studies have concluded that the sooner a hearing loss is addressed through amplification, the slower the condition deteriorates in the future. Many long-term studies have shown almost unanimously, that over many decades, the difference in those who addressed their hearing loss in the mild to moderate stage had almost 50% better hearing than those who waited until the condition became severe.

Additionally, there is new and exciting research being done that strongly indicates untreated hearing loss can also account for significant increases in early onset Alzheimer’s and dementia. As well, untreated a hearing loss has also been associated with memory loss and balance issues.

It is never too late to treat your hearing loss, however the sooner we can start to stimulate the hearing nerve and restore the wonderful sounds of life that slowly disappear over time, the better off things will be in the long term.

At Lakeshore Paramedical, we understand that hearing aids are a big investment, regardless of what technology you ultimately choose to move forward with. That is why we offer a wide variety of technologies and price points to suit almost any budget. In addition to that, we offer flexible payment options, including free financing, to spread the cost out over longer periods of time. We don’t charge interest or fees in these cases and can discuss optional payment methods on a case-by-case basis.

We also receive very aggressive promotions from our suppliers, which significantly reduces the financial burden for our patients to purchase a hearing aid from our office.

There is a lot of misinformation on the internet and television regarding the cost of hearing aids. When you purchase a hearing aid, you are not just paying for the plastic casing, or the small wire or the silicone tip. You are essentially purchasing a computer. Not only a computer, but a supercomputer that has been miniaturized down to the size of the tip of your pinky figure. Developing and miniaturizing this incredibly sophisticated technology requires significant investment from the hearing aid manufacturers. In most cases, it takes 10 years to develop a new hearing aid from inception to marketing. That means that the technologies being developed now, won’t be seen by the general public for almost a decade still to come! Additionally, roughly 40% of what patients pay to purchase hearing aids relates to the servicing warranty provided by your hearing health care professional. Hearing aids require frequent maintenance and adjustments, not to mention regular cleaning and replacement parts. When you purchase a hearing aid, your hearing professional provides these services to you as often as you require. Many of these services are not something patients are able to simply perform themselves, such as recalibrations, adjustments, and testing. Without these essential services, most patients would not be able to get the longevity and daily performance out of their devices that the aids are capable of providing. While some up-front service costs can be saved initially by purchasing basic amplifiers over the internet for example, this would significantly diminish the long term value of the investment, as they are designed to be properly serviced and last for many years once purchased.

There are also a wide variety of technologies and price points for hearing aids, including basic and economy levels of technology which offer options for patients in need of more budget friendly solutions.

Our clinic is easily accessible from our parking lot, and is all one level. The front office is large, and the hallways are wide and wheelchair/walker friendly. We have large doorways and an automatic front door.
